Brandon Bernstein, from Lake Forest, Calif., raced to his fourth victory of the season in the Budweiser/Lucas Oil dragster, defeating Rod Fuller’s Valvoline dragster in the final. For Dallas-native Bernstein, it was his first victory at the Texas Motorplex and the 12th of his career.

Tony Schumacher claimed his 10th Top Fuel pole of the season and the 32nd of his career when he drove the U.S. Army dragster to a 4.520 seconds at 325.22 mph. Schumacher is one short of his category-record 11 No. 1 performances in a season which he set last year.

By advancing to the semi final round Schumacher has now cut Doug Kalitta’s overall series lead to 33 points and with his victory, Brandon Bernstein has moved to within 40 points of Kalitta.

Top Fuel racing at Dallas included a couple of shocking DNQs as neither Larry Dixon nor Cory McClenathan broke into the field.

Robert Hight, from Anaheim Hills, CA drove the Auto Club Ford Mustang to the Funny Car title beating first-time finalist Mike Ashley, driver of the Torco Racing Fuels Dodge. It was Hight’s third win of the season. With the victory, Hight ended a streak of 25 races where the No. 1 qualifier in Funny Car had been shut out of the winner’s circle.

Hight raced to a category-leading eighth No. 1 qualifying spot of the season with a 4.742 seconds at 324.75 mph and his victory moved him into rather serious contention for the POWERade championship. Hight now sits third overall, 93 behind Capps.

Mike Ashley’s R/UP finish marked his first ever final round appearance in the Funny Car class and came in his first race driving with a new Dodge Charger body.

A pivotal first round pairing saw series points leader Ron Capps defeat top challenger John Force. Capps powered his Brut Dodge Charger to the win while Force’s Castrol GTX Ford Mustang lost traction at the start. It was Force’s fourth first round loss of the season. With that first round victory, Capps increased his series points lead to 37 over Force however Capps was then dealt out in the second round by teammate Ashley.

Richie Stevens Jr, from New Orleans, drove his Team Mopar Dodge Stratus to victory in Pro Stock, his first circuit win since the 2001 season. The win was Stevens’ fifth career victory and his first at the Texas Motorplex. Stevens overcame a final round lane choice disadvantage to Pontiac GTO driver Mike Edwards and won a convincing 6.693 secs to 6.718 secs decision.

Greg Anderson claimed the No. 1 qualifying spot in the class racing his Summit Racing Pontiac GTO with a track record performance of 6.662 at 206.95 mph. It is Anderson’s 11th PS pole of the season and the 51st of his career. Anderson was however upset in the first round by No. 16 qualifier Dave Northrop driver of the Nitro Fish Dodge Stratus. That was Anderson’s sixth first round loss of the season.

Anderson’s Summit Racing teammate Jason Line, who lost in the second round, increased his series lead to 78 points over Anderson.

AMS Pro Modified action produced the first ever class win for a lady driver when Shelly Anderson drove to victory in the Valvoline-sponsored Dodge Stratus. Shelly, who had previously won in NHRA in both Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Fuel, outran Australia’s Troy Critchley in the final round; 6.091 secs 231.68 mph to 6.170 secs 235.97 mph.

Payne had earlier toppled Mike Bell (her husband) Jay Payne, and Thomas Patterson.

Texan Josh Hernandez was the performance star of the Pro Mod class at the Dallas event setting both low ET and top speed at 6.016 secs and 239.06 mph driving the Dr. Moon’s Rage Chevy Camaro.
