Well, I Rode down South to Mission, BC, Canada to attend the 3rd Race in the CMDRA Y2K1 Drag Bike Series sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Canada on 07/14-15/01. I was looking forward to my Road Trip as I had been working hard and needed a break. Heading into sunny, warmer weather, I knew my Husband and I would have a fabulous time in the CMDRA Pits.
After the big competition at the AHDRA Races in Seattle earlier in the month, I was sure that some American Racers were coming up to Canada to check out what was going on at the Mission Raceway Park. This would make for some really interesting Motorcycle Drag Racing!
Arriving early on Friday afternoon we checked into our hotel and promptly headed off to wash the Road Kill off our Bikes. My Husband is particular about preventative maintenance and as his discerning eye appraised my efforts, I scrubbed my Iron Horse until she gleamed. After a good wash, his Road King never looked better and together we toured off down the road for a scenic cruise by the river.
Saturday was fabulous with sun-filled skies and all the Events of the day playing out A-OK. There was one tense moment when a Racer got too close to the wall but the Thunder God must have been looking after all the Drag Racers that day as everyone made it down the Race Track safely.
As the days go by I get smarter and this time I brought my Video Camera along with me to the Track. I got great footage and will enjoy the celluloid memories later on. Up at the Starting Line it was a little unnerving for me as I felt the rumble of the Bikes as they flew by - the raw power emanating from the Bikes was tangible…
There is a limitlessness to the Sport of Motorcycle Drag Racing. This thing happens when you are face to face with the Top Fuel Bikes as they soar down the Track, side by side, giving the Fans such great action - making a mad dash for the Finish Line. If you stop for a moment and quiet yourself everything just all blurs together - it is as if you are one with the machines and it’s the best thing ever!
With the Races over for the day, we had time to chill out and kicked back for a while at the Mission Springs Pub. After a hard day at the Track it was nice to wind down in the comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. After a healthy meal, exhausted from having so much fun and me needing some beauty rest, we turned in early as Sunday assured us lots of Drag Racing - fast & furious. I drifted off to sleep hoping to have Nitro Dreams...
Waking up to a glorious day, feeling refreshed and chipper, we headed out to the Track. I wanted to get more film footage but the rains came and put a stop to Racing that day. If the Event is Rained Out you get Points but the Trophies are handed out at the next CMDRA Race. For more info and results just click on www.cmdra.com.
Ultimately, I had an extreme Ride, discovered new Roads and met a few nice people along the way. Not only do girls just wanna have fun but what a girl wants and what a girl needs is more Nitro action!
