Reading Tuesday August 7th Toronto Star and Toronto Sun was very stressful for me. I was deeply hurt when I read the headline in the Star's Greater Toronto Section "drag racing blamed for fatal crash". Our sport again has received bad press coverage from ignorant no mind reporters. Having spent the last few years trying to secure sponsorship for the race team I can't help but be upset at articles like that. To compare a professional sport like ours to a few street racers who have no care for the safety of themselves or others. When needless tragedies result because of reckless street racing our sport always gets a bad rap. If the crash involving this stock type Acura occurred on a curve would " Stock Car, Formula One or Indy Car" racing be blamed ? Not likely! The "Globe and Mail" was the only Toronto paper with the following headline " Police investigate accident for signs of street racing" . I am contacting the local race tracks today to confirm their street legal race schedules. Most tracks have at least 1 dedicated night to street and grudge racing. I am currently preparing a letter of protest asking for a retraction and a story explaining the difference between drag racing and street racing from both newspapers as well as a letter to the Globe and Mail thanking them for their discretion. I suggest if you feel as strong about this that you do the same. Thanks, Dennis.
