INSPIRATION STORY . . .
. . . Following his devastating fire during the NSCA World Finals in 1998 which destroyed his race car and caused him to sit out the entire 1999 season, Toronto’s “Little Ricky” Carlos is back with vengeance in 2000. Carlos unveiled his incredible new Pro Street Camaro during Toronto’s Speedorama Car Show last weekend as part of the Performance Racing News display. Carlos, who was the first Pro Street racer in Canada to run over 200 mph expects his new machine to dip into the 6.80 secs zone. Carlos will run the ’69 model on the full 2000 NSCA tour with a Pat Musi 648 CID nitrous-injected engine and a 5-speed Lenco transmission. Dragracecanada will feature a Team Profile on Ricky Carlos in the very near future.

MAGEAU MANOUVER . . .
. . . Subsequent to a very success first year running a supercharged alcohol burning altered (which ran a best of 7.35 at 185 mph) Edmonton’s Jay Mageau has revealed plans to build a Funny Car for 2000. Mageau Family Racing has contracted Ken Sitko to build the chassis and have taken delivery of a ’57 Chevy replica body – similar to what Tom McEwen ran about 10 years ago. That is being painted by Joey's Place in Edmonton. The car will be run in the 7.50 class for 2000 but is being built for the future - to all FMFC specs. That cross over is possible for the year 2001. The classic looking machine is a sure bet to be a popular fan attraction at Western Canadian tracks this summer. Watch for a first look at the car and a Team Profile on Mageau Family Racing in Dragracecanada shortly.

“BOOM BOOM” PATON . . .
. . . Todd Paton’s debut race driving the Gary Richards owned nitro-burning Oldsmobile was trying but interesting affair. Paton drove the car for the first time during the Autofest 2000 event in West Palm Beach Florida over the New Year holiday weekend. His first couple of attempts resulted in blower backfires but eventually Paton ran a best if 5.61 secs on what was a very marginal racing surface. Paton reports that he will do double duty at a few NHRA national events this season -- driving both the Richards nitro car and his own family run FMFC. Look for the first “double” to be the NHRA Mac Tools Gatornationals in March.

The owner and operator of J&P Performance has run a career best of 8.09 secs however expects to clobber that with some mid 7-seconds ETs this year. Silva has secured the services of Joe Spetter as a team consultant and tuner. Spetter’s reputation includes the quickest and fastest turbo cars in North America.
