CANADIAN CHARIOT OF FIRE

Canada's jet car exhibition scene has grown again following the confirmation that Ontario's Lou Pereira has outright purchased the "Chariot of Fire" jet dragster formally campaigned by American racer Lou Brookman. Pereira, who will be based from Mississauga and who licensed in the car during the 2000 racing season revealed that he has plans to tour throughout Canada, the USA and even the Caribbean this summer. Pereira who ran a career best 5.00 secs at 314 mph last year at Napierville Quebec reports he is available for bookings. His operation will in fact be the second jet dragster based from Southern Ontario -- joining another circuit newcomer, Dan Pirisi who will debut his "Gladiator" jet in the very near future. Dragracecanada can envision some creative track owners booking in a bonafide USA versus Canada jet car show at some point this season. (Bruce Biegler photo)

FREEDOM '57

Western Canada Pro/Super Gas stalwart Mike Shannon debuted his all new '57 Corvette Roadster during NHRA's SummitRacing.com Nationals at Las Vegas. Shannon's Don Davis-built car is powered by a 565 CID engine built by Keith Korecki and features a stunning paint scheme by fellow circuit racer Peter Dalglish (Vancouver BC). Look for Shannon to be highly active in NHRA Division Six and west coast NHRA national events this season. (Bruce Biegler photo)
