MAY IN AUGUST . . .
. . . Glen May’s much anticipated debut of his supercharged Ford Ranger Pro Mod truck has been confirmed for the IHRA Mopar Parts World Nationals in Norwalk, OH., -- August 26-29th. May and his B.C. based crew will shoehorn the proven Bill Barrett-built Shotgun Hemi Ford engine from their "Cranberry Connection" Thunderbird into the new machine’s framerails. May expects that the very aerodynamic truck will run low to mid 6.30 secs at near 220 mph. Watch for a first look from Dragracecanada in August....

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON . . .
. . . Al Kenny, one of the most recognized names in Canadian drag racing has returned to the sport with his son Jason Kenny (19). The duo have fielded a new S&W built dragster for competition in IHRA Quick Rod and NHRA Super Comp. Both attended Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School during the off season. Jason Kenny made his IHRA national event debut at NYIR but lost in round one. The father and son team will share driving duties in 1999. The Glenburnie, ON-based team is sponsored by Landa Pressure Washers/Clean Ontario. Al Kenny raced dragsters, primarily in Top Alcohol for some 15 years before retiring.
NOAKES IN MOTION . . .
. . . Paul Noakes had a terrific IHRA national event debut driving his slick new Gordy’s built Ford Mustang. Noakes (from London, ON) ran a career quick 6.040 secs at 234.00 mph while qualifying at the IHRA Carquest Empire Nationals, drag racing’s all time quickest Alky Funny Car filed (6.104 secs bump). Noakes ran a 6.085 secs at 234.74 mph to win round one but lost to eventual event champion Von Smith in the quarterfinals.
