MEDICINE HAT MUSTANG

Western Canadian drag racing fans can look forward to a new Alberta-based FMFC entry in 2001 when Medicine Hat's Greg Hunter throws his hat into the ring. Hunter, who is 30 years old, will debut a Victory-chassied Ford Mustang-bodied car and is scheduled to begin his licensing process in the early spring. Greg is son to Adrian Hunter, a well known competitor on the Truck Pull racing scene with his 2000 Ford F-150. The team will in fact employ a unique 526 CID Ford engine in their drag racing effort which as been developed from that racing program. Hunter reports that engine has shown some impressive numbers while on Les Davenport's dyno (Acceleration Enterprises in Calgary). Primary sponsorship for Hunter's new FMFC effort will come from Spitz Sunflower Seeds (who are headquartered in Medicine Hat). Keep watching Dragracecanada for a first look at the car and a Team Profile in "Media" in the very new future.

SHAKEDOWN RUNS

We neglected to mention in last month's coverage of the NHRA AAA Auto Club Finals the fact that Canada's Jeff Arend made a couple of qualifying attempts in Nitro FC driving Chuck Beal's new Chevy Camaro. Arend, who is formally from Toronto but now resides in San Dimas, CA. ran a best of 5.511 secs at 232.43 mph in his first laps driving the San Diego-based machine but was a DNQ. Arend hopes to make additional appearances in the car again in 2001. (Bruce Biegler photo)
