Racer Collects Vegas Super Street Jackpot Bruce Biegler
- October 30, 2003
Gerry Epp, from Abbotsford,
BC., became the first Canadian racer to win a NHRA national event title this season
when he scored in the Super Street category during last weekend's ACDelco Las
Vegas Nationals. Epp made the very best of a rare national event level appearance
driving his meticulous '67 Ford Mustang as he outlasted the tough program after
qualifying in the 12th slot.
Epp
won a classic Ford versus Chevy final round which was a double breakout affair.
The BC-racer's 11.076 secs at 133.35 mph was less of a violation then that of
California's Steve Cox who ran 11.036 seca at 109.08 mph. The Super Street class,
normally a 10.90 secs standard, was adjusted due to the altitude at Las Vegas
to 11.07 secs. Epps's win was his first career NHRA national event victory. (Kevin
