Can-Am S/SS Michigan "Double Header"

The Eastern Canadian-based Can-Am Stock/Super Stock series invaded Michigan's Milan Dragway for a "double header" last weekend...
On June 26 and 27 the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series traveled to Milan Michigan for the third and fourth race of the ten race series. The Wix Filters and Smith Performance Specialties sponsored series raced with over 400 other cars as part of the Citgo Bracket Racing Series Motor City Nationals and was joined by a great group of Michigan racers, including the winner of last year’s Sunday race, Lynn Laperiere. The weekend had beautiful weather and the track at Milan was organized, fast-paced, and more than willing to accommodate the Series as part of a busy weekend.
Some highlights of the weekend include: a last minute driver substitute, as Chris Lozon drove Bill McDonald’s Super Stock Mustang to a successful semi-final finish on Sunday; the traditional Saturday night Bar-B-Que put on by Michigan Can-Am racers Steve and Rose Novosel was delicious; and Wally Clark was the big winner of the weekend, appearing in the final round on both Saturday and Sunday and taking home some extra prize money from weekly sponsor Bear’s Performance Products.
On Saturday Steve Novosel broke-out in his GT/AA Camaro against a winning Wally Clark in his GT/BA Grand Am. On his way to the Runner-Up spot, Steve beat Canadian racers Al Lozon, John Ulinskas and took a bye to the final round, while Wally took out last year’s Can-Am champion Tim Ferguson, Lynn Laperiere, and George Wright.
 Sunday bore a striking resemblance to Saturday as Wally Clark and Tim Ferguson met up again in the first round, with the same outcome. In the final, Wally red-lit against Victoria Smith in what was almost a heads-up race, with the drivers dialed 9.64 and 9.62, respectively.
The series enjoyed their stay in Michigan, and will be back again next year. The next Can-Am race is July 11 at Toronto Motorsports Park, followed by two races at Grand Bend Motorplex July 24, part of the Stratford Day Spectacular, and August 7.
