Attewell Scores Big at Bud Park! Mike Ferstl - September 28, 2004
Calgary's Jim Attewell topped Alberta's best last weekend winning a season-ending showdown at Budweiser Raceway Park. But shortly after his victory Attewell endured some misfortune...
Jim Attewell from Calgary, AB representing Rowdy Race Products of Calgary scored big in Edmonton on Sunday in the Phil Hall “King of the Hill” race by defeating Ed Matiejewski from Sherwood Park, AB in the final. Attewell driving the only dragster in the invitational race, scored the win when Matiejewski, 6-time Bud Park track champ went red with a -.006 red light in the final in his trusty Stock eliminator legal ’71 Nova.
Attewell, the fastest entry in the field dialed 7.90’s throughout the five round race and was in the zone running 7.919 seconds at 170.00 mph in the final. Spotting Matiejewski well over 4 seconds, Attewell was able to watch his opponent go red and celebrate his monstrous win! For his efforts, Attewell took home $4,500 and Matiejewski $2,500. Corey Osland from St. Albert, AB in his ’82 Mustang and Jim Low from Edmonton in his ’66 Chevy II were your semi-finalists.
Mike Ferstl, fellow Rowdy Race Products teammate from Calgary went three rounds in his IHRA Hot Rod classed ’67 Chevy II only to meet up with Matiejewski and fall to a tardy light.
Congratulations from all of the Edmonton and Calgary racers go out to Phil Hall from Camrose, AB and the CCHRA for hosting the awesome event. Hall has promised a larger venue for the 2005 racing season and new partners have already committed to its continued success!
Attewell's victory did however also include some sad news.....Jim broke his leg late Sunday night while loading the car into the trailer. He’s in Leduc hospital waiting to get a bed and be operated on. All of Jims’ racing friends at Rowdy Race Products and in Calgary, and everybody at DragRaceCanada.com wish him a speedy recovery!
