"Iceman" Freezes Kentucky TAD Field
Bruce Biegler - August 31, 2006
Canada's fastest Top Alcohol Dragster racer, Ken Perry, earned his first NHRA LODRS divisional race title of the season last weekend when he won at the North Central division stop presented by Holley at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky.
Perry qualified #1 for the category with a low ET pass of 5.411 secs at 257.92 mph and then rode that swift momentum into the winner’s circle on Sunday.
Perry made his best pass of the day, 5.428 seconds at 269.03 mph, in the opening round of eliminations, which was more than enough to cover Artie Allen of Jacksonville, Fla. The Gormley, Ont., resident then faced off against reigning division champion Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill., and won with a 5.431-second, 264.34 mph pass. In the final he ran 5.464 seconds at 250.60 mph to defeat Jeff Bohr’s 5.539-second, 254.57 mph effort.
The event was the 5th of 6 scheduled races within the NHRA North Central Division. Their 2006 season will conclude at Columbus, Ohio's National Trail Raceway, September 22-24.
