A Hi-Velocity Objective
Bruce Biegler - July 30, 2007

Racing in the Nitro Funny Car category has never been or will be easy. Racing in the Nitro Funny Car class based from Northern Alberta in Canada is an even more daunting task. But don't think those notions are swaying Edmonton's Randy Bykowsky away from his career objectives.

For the last 4 seasons Bykowsky, who is a Materials Supervisor for a major Alberta-based heating and air-conditioning company, has been chipping away in the category. Racing within both the geographical limitations as well as with a restricted budget has necessitated a gradual approach for both he and his car owner Leon Prevost.

Randy is in 2007 behind the wheel of his most advanced car so far. The team is running a modern day chassis and a 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo body which they acquired from Terry Haddock during the past off season. The team is in fact both influenced and supported by John Force Racing. Neil Fedderly, who is their crew chief, is the nephew to legendary Canadian tuner Bernie Fedderly.

"We started this all with a smaller program but over time we've got a lot of pointers and used parts from John Force Racing," Randy revealed. "In fact we now run about the same combination as they do at JFR however ours is greatly detuned for our purposes. We back things way off and try not to hurt things. Our objectives right now are low 5-secs runs while we gain more experience."

The recent IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals marked a milestone for Randy's team. It was in fact the first time in history that they participated at the national event level. They did in fact qualify for their first race out -- which is something they are (and should be) proud of.

"Since 2003 our schedule has been limited to mostly match races," he added. "But when the IHRA announced last year they were re-introducing the Nitro Funny Car class -- we knew we had to set a new objective. We want to evolve to a national event caliber car -- we want to race competitively in front of our home town fans. At IHRA Edmonton the fact we qualified was very rewarding for us. Just to get into the show almost feels like we won. It was a great step for our team."

Randy and Leon's racing operation is funded 100% in-house by their own company; Energy Saving Products. Hi-Velocity is the brand name for the cutting edge systems which they sell and maintain. More information on that can be found at their company website: www.hi-velocity.com
