Cowie Clout Continued....
Bruce Biegler - June 4, 2008
The fast rise of British Columbia's Shawn Cowie as a super serious player within NHRA's Top Alcohol Dragster class hit another plateau during last weekend's O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Topeka KS.
At that event Cowie notched another career first when he qualified #1 in NHRA national event competition driving his supercharged machine. Cowie anchored a very quick TAD program when he sped to
a spectacular 5.335 secs at 269.13 mph to take the pole.
Using the combined skills of crew chief Bill Moore and tuning consultant Bucky Austin, Cowie advanced to the third round at Topeka scoring back-to-back wins over the injected nitro cars driven by
Brandon Lewis and Dana Stripe. Cowie's team unloaded consecutive runs of 5.374 secs and 5.347 secs while taking those rounds.
In the semi-final round the team lost out when California's Chris Demke used a superior starting line reaction time to edge out the Western Canadian racer; 5.379 secs 266.21 mph compared to Shawn's quicker and faster 5.369 secs at 268.49 mph.
For Cowie the strong placing was his second "final four" appearance in NHRA national event competition this season and came only one week after his hometown runner-up performance during the Mission Raceway LODRS event.
The team heads to Joliet Illinois this weekend to represent their Pacific Northwest division within the highly prestigious annual Jegs All-Stars competition.
