To The Next Level
Bruce Biegler - March 12, 2008
One of the most potential ridden new Canadian Pro Modified teams will take things to the next level beginning in 2008.
Versatile driver Scott Wildgust and car owner Kirk Silbermann, who are both from Ontario, have acquired the very potent 1967 Chevy Camaro last raced by Carl Spiering. Together they plan to run an expanded racing schedule this season.
“When the opportunity to get this car came up we jumped at it,” said Kirk Silbermann, the owner of reputed Ajax Engines (Ajax, ON). “There is no denying it is a premium and proven car. It included a turnkey ERD engine program with the very latest in ERD technology. The fact that the complete package was available was very attractive to us.”
For Wildgust and Silbermann, the 2008 racing season will be their 3rd together. Previously they ran select PMRA and IHRA events with their popular NitroMoose ’57 Chevy and made good strides racing that car.
“Our old car served us well but it did have some limitations,” stated Kirk. “We had to make this move to become competitive at the next level in this class which is something both Scott and I desire.”
Torco Racing Fuels (Ontario) and Ajax Engines will finance the 2008 season campaign in conjunction with some associate sponsors including Wild Boar Gear and Stratford Automation.
The team will focus on the Eastern PMRA circuit but also plan to attend all three IHRA national event races in Canada this season. The planned trip to Edmonton next July will mark their first ever racing venture to Western Canada.
The team will also dedicate its ’08 campaign to the fallen Canadian soldiers in the Afghanistan conflict. “I feel strongly about helping to spread that awareness and support of that cause,” added Silbermann.
The racing public will get a sneak peek of the new car during this weekend’s Performance World Car Show in Toronto.
