Super Street Slingers to Return
Bruce Biegler - March 27, 2008

Canadian fast street car proponent Joe DaSilva will once again present one of the most anticipated independent drag racing events of the season for Canada when the 2008 Canadian Street Car Nationals goes down at Toronto Motorsports Park, next August.

DaSilva, who is the owner of Canada’s reputed Mustang Toy Store Company and who runs a spectacular 6-second turbocharged Mustang of his own, confirms that his 2008 race will be the biggest and richest yet. Racing competitors within the event’s marquee Super Street 10.5 class category will be vying for a first place price of $20,000.

“Our 2007 race attracted a lot of cars and gained a lot of momentum,” DaSilva reflected. “We had four World Champions show up for the event. The purse for this year’s event will be the most prize money we’ve ever offered and will include some qualifying money.”

The 2007 Canadian Street Car Nationals event included some amazing record setting performances not the least of which was runs of 6.835 secs and 208.97 mph in Super Street 10.5. A star studded returning international cast including names, Chuck Samuels, Spiro Pappas, Dan Millen will battle Canadian racers like Rick Rosella, Mike Yedgarian and Rocky DeLicce.

“For the last two years in a row the Super Street 10.5 winner has been Canadian,” added Joe. “We are challenging our U.S. competitors to come up and try to change that.”

While the Super Street 10.5 cars will be the event’s main attraction, there will be competition in 16 other fast street car orientated classes, including Drag Radial Tires, Real Street, and ET Bracket. The event will also feature a huge car show, manufacturers’ midway as well as weekend family orientated activities. An added event attraction will be the popular Can-Am Stock/Super Stock series.

DaSilva prides himself about the overall reputation of his events and puts a lot of energy into that aspect.

“Being a racer, I know how I would want to be treated,” he added. “We try to make registration as easy as possible and we put a lot of focus on track preparation. We want to make our event experience positive for everyone involved. My objective is that for even the racers that may have lost for the weekend – they still leave with a smile.”

DaSilva is working with a number of sponsorship partners for the 2008 event including Remax and Mothers. More information and updates about the coming event (August 15-17th) can be found here: www.canadianstreetcarnationals.com
