Canadian Stallion at the Gate!
Bruce Biegler - May 23, 2008
Canada’s longest running Pro Stock racing camp, Ontario’s Konigshofer Brothers, will continue their much anticipated racing comeback this coming weekend during the IHRA's Motor City Nationals in Michigan.
After sitting relatively idle the past two seasons, the team did first return to action during April's IHRA Spring Nationals held in North Carolina with an abbreviated effort. At that race, driver John Konigshofer made (right out of the box) his first ever laps driving an all new 2008 Ford Mustang, a car built by Jerry Haas. Plans are for that car, which features a very high tech and potent 850 CID engine program by Jon Kaase, to run the remainder of the ‘08 IHRA series.
“At Rockingham we were at a distinct disadvantage because it was our very first shake down runs after taking delivery,” revealed John Konigshofer. “We still managed to run a best of 6.48 secs at 215 mph on only our third hit -- but found out later we did that with effectively only 7 cylinders. We did have to send the motor back for some work but now we are 100% ready to go. We have no doubt this car will eventually be a top contender. We have all new technology and as much power as the front runners out there. Our performance target is definitely the 6.2 secs range at 220+ mph. All we now is just some time to develop it.
“Johnny K” was also quick to confirm that the ride of his new car is something to behold. “Jerry Haas is simply a master craftsman and this car is awesome to drive,” he added. “It’s really amazing how much things can advance in only a couple of years or so.”
The Konigshofer Brothers trio, which also includes John’s brothers Joe and Frank, have also come to an agreement with DragRaceCanada's own NitroMoose division and will be the newest associate team member of that equation.
“We owe a great amount of appreciation to all the teams and friends that have helped us get to this point,” said Bruce Biegler, founder and owner of NitroMoose. “Our intention for 2008 is to elevate things for the brand so this year our team has morphed to include some different cars and drivers. We are thrilled to have come to an agreement with a team of a quality as the Konigshofer Brothers."
The Konigshofer Brothers join fellow Canadian Pro Modified racer Kenny Lang in IHRA and also the U.S.-based Cantrell Brothers Top Alcohol Dragsters on the NHRA circuit as NitroMoose's 3-car Can-Am effort in 2008.
