Canada's Quickest -- Again!
Bruce Biegler - May 29, 2008
Ontario's Konigshofer Brothers have wrested back a prestigious honor by reclaiming their role as Canada's all time quickest and fastest Pro Stocker.
During last weekend's IHRA Motor City Nationals held near Detroit, team driver John Konigshofer ran career best times of 6.371 secs at 219.15 mph driving his all new Jerry Haas-built
Ford Mustang. That quick run, which came during the final qualifying session on Saturday evening was also the team's first ever sub 6.4 secs elapsed time and it trumped the only two other
6.3 runs in Canadian Pro Stock drag racing history - Anthony Paone's 6.398 (at Rockingham) and Larry O'Brien's 6.393 secs (at Grand Bend) which both happened last season.
"In fact our first six-thirty came on only the fourth full pass we have had in this brand new race car," revealed John Konigshofer. "We managed to get our tune-up closer but it actually drove
through the clutch a bit so it could have been even faster -- a 6.35 or 6.36."
The team also speculated further about even more performance improvements going forward.
"There is lots left in this car so we are pretty encouraged," added John. "We know that a six-twenty and 220 mph is there -- we just need to do some work to draw it out. All the tools are there. I think it will take another race or two and we will be in top form."
Next up for the Konigshofer Brothers will be the IHRA Presidents Cup Nationals in Maryland (June 13-15th).
