More Major Mathematics!
Bruce Biegler - March 31, 2009
Canada's Raymond Commisso and his Pro Mod engine "guru" Al Billes once again took aim on a major performance mark during last weekend's NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park.
Driving the R2B2-sponsored Chevy Camaro, Commisso took full advantage of some phenomenal track and atmospheric conditions during the event's featured "Get Screened America" Pro Mod Challenge when he recorded the quickest run in Pro Mod history at 5.884 secs.
The super fast lap came during the one and only qualifying round for the event on Saturday. The previously scheduled two qualifying runs for Friday had been washed out by rain.
The mark (low ET of the event) eclipsed the previous career best run of 5.935 secs run that Ray recorded at NHRA Gainesville in 2008. Up to now, the all time quickest recognized run in Pro Mod history was a 5.900 secs timeslip set by Josh Hernandez at Virginia Motorsports Park last fall.
Raymond's quick ET was also complimented by some serious speed -- 246.57 mph -- which was in fact top speed of the meet.
Unfortunately in round one Commisso fell in a major upset when he went .034 red while racing along side Taylor Lastor. Raymond's far superior 5.971 secs at 245.18 mph which was thus negated by the foul start.
