Lang Delivers Championship Clinching Performance!
Bruce Biegler - September 28, 2009

Congratulations to Manitoba's Kenny Lang who mathematically clinched a 2nd straight IHRA Pro Modified World Championship title during yesterday's President's Cup Nationals in Maryland.

Lang and his hard working team put on another dominating performance and earned a "natural hat trick" by winning their 3rd straight IHRA national event victory and their 4th of the 2009 season. That victory, combined with bonus points earned from resetting the IHRA national ET record ,has assured Lang the world title.

In the final round and for the 5th time this season, Lang faced his primary rival Ed Hoover. But Hoover, driver of the Paul Trussell Motorsports Chevy Camaro, moved too soon however and red-lit away a 5.998 secs 237.80 mph lap. Lang, in the other lane meticulously ripped off a tremendous 5.934 secs at 242.54 mph. That quick time backed up a stunning 5.884 secs ET which Lang had recorded on Friday for an official new IHRA World mark.

Incredibly, the final round appearance at MIR was Lang's eighth consecutive this season.

“Everything went well this weekend," said Kenny. "The rain wreaked havoc on everybody, but we had a real good solid run on Friday and everything fell into place after that. Eight finals in a row -- three wins in a row and wrapping up a second championship – you really can’t beat this.”

“Just getting a championship is tough, but getting back-to-back world championships is just incredible," he added. "It is a hard thing to do and something we were definitely shooting for and to get that done is just impressive.

Lang did receive a tough test on Sunday. Prior to edging Hoover in the final, he survived some close matches versus Andy Jensen and Fred Scriba. Those came after a first round bye based on his low qualifying effort and the fact again that the IHRA Pro Mod field was short cars.
