Strong New Car Debut for Cowie Racing
Bruce Biegler - February 18, 2010

British Columbia's most formidable drag racing team, Delta's Cowie Racing, had a very strong new car debut during last weekend's season-opening NHRA Kragen O'Reilly Winternationals, at Pomona, CA.

The team entered the event armed with an all new Brad Hadman built dragster.  After only a couple of easy test laps at Las Vegas the week prior they in fact made their first full pull with in the car during Thursday's opening qualifying round.

In the end they did not win the event, however were rewarded with some solid laps and a very strong semi-final round finish, both factors that bode well for the team's 2010 season future.

The team had installed it's already proven engine program from last season into the new frame, qualified #9 with a 5.393 secs at 262.08 mph, an exciting run which saw driver Shawn Cowie ride out a very formidable and long lasting wheel stand.

The team then scored round wins over Dale Carlson (5.358 secs 266.48 mph) and Brittney Force (5.374 secs 264.23 mph) before losing out to eventual first time event winner Chris Demke in round three.  Shawn's 5.389 secs at 259.61 mph simply could not run down Demke's great lap of 5.308 secs at 268.38 mph.

"This is a lot different from our old car," Shawn admitted.  "Right now we have a few new car blues which comes with the territory.  I am very confident that our team, which is lead by Bill Moore (crew chief) will get it sorted out.  Running some mid 5.2s is our goal for this season -- that is almost a necessity for a supercharged car to be competitive in this class."
