Top Fuel:
The two best qualifiers in this weekends Top Fuel field were Risto Poutiainen 4.055 / 277.82 mph and Andy Carter 4.108 / 286.18mph. After Risto had beaten Mikael Kagered in the first round and Urs Erbacher in the second he was to face Andy in the "logic" final. Andy had to go through Anita Makela and Lex Joon. As the cars lined up for the final, the rain made an undesirable entrance to Mantorp Park. In fact no finals in EM were able to proceed. The weekend's Top Fuel qualifications and eliminations were really big crowd pleasers, with no cleanup´s or mishap´s at all. The bumpspot ended up at 4.352 secs. As was the case in Finland recently -- Top Fuel racing was restricted to the 1000 foot mark.

Top Methanol Dragster:
In Top Methanol Dragster Derek Flynn who won the last event at Alastaro Finland could not crack the tough bump spot of 5.682 at Mantorp -- but that's drag racing. Qualification ended with Dave Wilson in the top at 5.312 secs 269.31 mph with the nitro injected Hadman/Wilson dragster. In the first round of qualifying the two Habermann brothers had to face each other in a real family affair, and who was surprised when the scoreboard showed that both of them drove to identical 5.437 secs ETs. Timo was however quicker on the tree and took the win. To bad for Fred Hanssen who had big problems. He almost hit the guardrail and then got the chutes out to late ending up in the sandtrap at the end of the track and rolled at least 2 times. Before the rain hit the final was set to feature Dave “grumpy” Wilson versus Timo Habermann.

Top Methanol Funny Car:
Only 6 teams were entered this weekend in TMFC. Before this weekend Dan Larsen had struggled hard to get his new car to go under 6 seconds, but they never gave up and in the first round of qualification they found the problem and ran a great 5.896. Dan then got to the final and was to face the points leader Ulf Leander who was #1 qualifier at 5.802 secs and 241.84 mph On Saturday Danny Bellio hit the guardrail after some tire shake and problem with the steering, but after a long night they showed up for elimination, guess they didn't sleep so much that night.

Pro Stock:
For a change, 5X and defending FIA champions Jimmy Ahlund wasn't holding the #1 spot after qualifying as he usually does. Qualifying was really tight at the top with first three cars all run 6.79 secs: (#1 Richard Sundblom 6.791, #2 Jimmy Ahlund 6.792 and #3 Michael Malmgren 6.794) Before the rain started, Jimmy was going to face Magnus Hansson from Umea in the final round.

Pro Mod:
Never before had there been such a big field of cars in Pro Mod cars in Europe -- with 31 machines battling over the weekend for a place in the 16-car ladder. Needless to say that the last qualification round on Saturday a war! When completed the bumpspot was the best ever seen in Europe at 6.408 secs, held by Graham Ellis.

More history was made this year in European Pro Mod racing, with the first turbocar ever entered, Johan “Lillis” Samuelsson's, good looking Dodge Viper. While we are still looking to get the first 6.0 secs run here in Europe, at this race it was Mats Eriksson with a 6.122 run who did pick up low ET of the meet Pro Mod racing offered the most popular and unusual top cars of the event. That included “Fast Freddy” Fagerstrom in his awesome looking Chevy C10 pickup, Mats Eriksson in his fantastic looking Crown Victoria a big surprise of the weekend, Jan Gunnarsson's supercharged '59 Cadillac. Before this even Gunnarsson's personal best had been 6.62 secs but he cut half a second on that time with an outstanding 6.129 secs. In the final the scheduled racers were to have been Mats Eriksson against Jan Gunnarsson.
