Defending ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel Champion Phil Lamattina certainly answered the call during round #3 of the ANDRA Top Fuel Championship chase held at Perth Motorplex in Western Australia.
The Victorian-based driver continued to show great form while winning in dominating fashion driving his FUCHS-sponsored dragster. That included a sensational final round 4.682 secs at 311. 41 mph (low ET) to score over arch rival Phil Read. Read went 4.852 secs at a 260. 86 mph after his engine let go at around the 1,000 foot mark..
Lamattina, who had qualified #1, soloed in the first round before defeating fellow Victorian Darren Morgan in the semi finals. Read had advanced defeating Allan Dobson in the first round then Martin Stamatis in the semi final.
The exciting event had some wild action including an incident in K-Trans Top Comp when South Australian Pat Carbone lost control of his AA/AP careering across into the lane of Murray O'Connor with both cars colliding. Both racers escaped unscathed although both have hours of repair work in the workshops ahead of him.
The event also saw Queenslands Chris Mathison record an exceptional 6.140 second ride on his nitro burning Motorcyle and Top Comp racer Jeff Clarke record the quickest pass ever in a BB car in Australian Drag racing history when he went 6.000 seconds. That just missed being an historic first ever 5-second time in that category.
