Australia Top Doorslammer powerhouse driver John Zappia rode a record setting weekend to victory during the 39th Western Nationals held at Perth Motorplex.
Driving his feared Striker Crushing-sponsored Monaro, Zappia won round #5 of the 2009/10 ANDRA Pro Series chase with a performance that included a new national ET record for the class at 5.815 secs. That super quick number came while Zappia was qualifying #1 over 14 cars entered in the category.
Zappia stopped overall ANDRA TD points leader Robin Judd in a highly anticipated final round. His equally impressive 5.829 secs at 243.24 mph tuned back Judd’s ’53 Studebaker which ran 6.079 secs at 241.28 mph.
Zappia had beaten Scott Maclean and Maurice Fabietti during earlier competition.
The event’s Top Bike Championship featured a final round bout between Geoff Redgrave and Chris Matheson. Redgrave held off Matheson for the title hitting a winning 7.399 secs versus Matheson’s 7.498 secs.
Prior to that Matheson had been the favorite after recording consecutive runs of 6.13 secs (low ET) and 6.18 secs while advancing to the final round.
TB rider Mark Drew was credited with top speed of the event at 210.77 mph.
