On The Road with Kenny Racing - March Edition
Jason Kenny - March 27, 2007
Welcome to the February-March 2007 edition of "On The Road with Kenny
Racing," the monthly newsletter featuring the Super Comp Dragsters and Super
Gas Corvettes of Alan and Jason Kenny.
We now have four complete race cars ready to roll. The black corvette was
our last project, and we started it up just a couple days ago. It will look
much better this season with a newly powdercoated chassis, a new windshield
and a new #7 on the scoop. The black wheels also came out nicely.
I'm always excited when a season starts, but this year seems even moreso
than any other year. I really like the gas carb combo, and now I've got 2
cars as identical as I have ever had. The cockpits are identical, with the
new dash in the corvette an exact duplicate of the one in my new dragster.
Should be fun!
Sometime during the off-season, Dad and I decided it would be best to sell
both of our spare motors and get one new spare that would fit all four cars.
The 565 pro-filer is too big for our corvettes, and the 505 would be a big
speed downgrade for dad if he ever had to put it in his dragster.
We have sold the 505 already and three people have inquired about the 565 in
the past week alone. Therefore, we are in the process of ordering a
conventional headed 565 from D&D Performance. It will fit in the corvettes
and be fast enough (975-1000 hp) for dad's dragster as a temporary
replacement.
His dragster motor made 1110 hp on the dyno this past off-season, while his
corvette eclipsed the 1000 hp mark after some necessary port matching and a
change in the timing.
My 555 corvette motor made 969 hp on the Reher dyno a year ago, while my 555
dragster motor made 964 hp a couple months ago. The only difference in the
two was the carb. We put an 1150 on the first one, then a 1050 on the
latest one. All four cars now feature Gary Stinnett-prepped 1050's.
Our first trip of the season begins this coming Wednesday, when we hit the
road to Atco, New Jersey for the PC Richard/Sony National Open. We're going
to complete chassis certifications and ETI's on Thursday. Time permitting;
we'll also do some testing that day. Time trials will get underway Friday,
with all eliminations on Sunday.
Dad and I will both enter Super Comp/Super Gas. Dad had thought about
entering Top Dragster, but would rather use this race to sort out his new
8.90 gas carb combo.
We have already made two changes to our schedule. First, we decided to hit
the Sportsnational event in Belle Rose, Louisiana the weekend in-between
Adel and Atlanta, Georgia. Second, is the decision to sit out the weekend
after the LODRS at Reading. We were thinking about going to Topeka for the
national event, but would rather come home and spend a weekend at home
refreshing not only the cars, but ourselves.
