St. Thomas crowns "King of the Track"
Mark Ackert - August 2, 2007
Austin Ward would find himself holding the coveted NHRA Wally after winning the King of the Track at St.Thomas Dragway recently.
The modest St.Thomas resident said it was luck that got him the win, but ask any of Austin’s friends and fellow competitors and they
will most likely say its from hard work and dedication. One person who could also be thanked for the win is car owner Aaron Everatt.
Austin had been very busy leading up to the race and with time winding down could not have his car ready for competition.
Aaron offered his ride so the two took the small block 79 Malibu to St.Thomas with the hopes of taking hope the iron and some cash.
Ward, who is no stranger to the dragstrip having raced since 1993 competed in Canada Trailers TOP ET and was victorious defeating Drew Buchner
of Alymer in the finals. With that win, Austin would find himself lined up against the STREET ET winner Bob Orr(no not Bobby) of Bayfield, Ont,
in the first round of King of the Track. Having beaten Orr, Austin would then find himself running against the ever consistent 68 Firebird
of Steve Doornbosch in the event final after Doornbosch defeated Bike/Sled winner James Miller.
Doornbosch ran his number, a 6.724 on a 72 dial but Ward was chopping down the tree all day and won on a hole shot after running a 6.791 on a 78 dial.
Congratulations to Austin Ward on a well deserved win.
