Some things they say are just worth waiting for, and that was certainly the case for anyone who participating in any fashion in the running of the 27th. Annual Ottawa Sun Bracket Bonanza. As with out any question this was by far the best one ever, with a record turnout of cars and fans, picture perfect weather all three days, and grandstands and camp grounds that where packed all weekend. Yes this was the one most will remember for a long time, the racing was nothing less than spectacular as some of the very best big dollar bracket racers came in from as far away as Nova Scotia, New Jersey, New York, Quebec and Ontario. The track itself which got a massive grooming prior to the event saw drivers running the best numbers they have ever run, and reaction times that where unheard of time after time during eliminations. You kind of got a good feeling for the event when the pits where pretty much full by the time Friday rolled around and you knew there was still many more who where on their way which made for parking well past the quarter mile mark for many. Friday saw many take advantage of the time trial session as well as the annual Tapp Auto Cruise Night. Saturday rolled along with great weather again and drivers ready and anxious to get things under way. The Semi Pro Class which had its largest field ever whittled its way down to a former winner Ryan Whelan who took the win light and the $2000. pay day that went with it. Ryan's victim in the would be former Benson Auto Parts Show Me the Money Winner Fred Ellis, however Fred would redeem himself on Sunday as he would go all the way to the finals again only this time with $5000. on the line for the winner he made sure he was on top this time and Daryl Jensen had to settle for runner up spot. No question that this was one of the best Semi Pro class's we have ever witnessed on the tour as many drivers preformed better than they ever have in past as the competition in Semi heats up heading into the last two series races of the season, Luskville Dragway Sept 1-2 and Shannonville Sept 15-16. The Super Pro Class which typically attracts the most attention because of the $10,000 pot for the winner each day, is also the class that brings in the out of town heavy hitters, and this year was no exception. so when local driver and last years tour super pro champion came to the line against New Jersey's Frank Mark the crowd was very much one sided for the Canadian driver, but that would not be enough as Mark and touring big dollar bracket racer was unstoppable winning the Saturday portion of the Bracket Bonanza and the $10,000. that went with it. Mark would not stop at just one day either as once again he waded through some of the best US and Canadian Drivers on Sunday also to snatch another $10,000 to take home to New Jersey. On Sunday Frank met and defeated a who's who of big dollar bracket racing including names like Kyle Jessup, Marco Laframboise, Charlie Kenopic, Jamie Clarmo, Gary Milot just to name a few, all of whom have one their own share of important races. So for Frank Mark the trip north was well worth while, for many of the locals who where left shaking their heads and wondering what they have to do to stop Mark, they wont have long to come up with a game plan as the US Driver plans on once again attending the Shannonville Show Me the Money tour race in Sept. In the Sled portion of the weekend James Miller was also a repeat winner taking both Saturday and Sunday's race over a small but enthusiastic group of drivers. The fourth and final class to run over the weekend was the Jr. Dragster which say over 14 entree's taking part in a great race weekend for them as well. The Reynolds family must be very proud of their boys after this weekend as Mikey was the winner on Saturday beating Jacob Wilson in the final go round and Kyle Reynolds doing the same thing in on Sunday beating brother Mike Reynolds in the Finals. So yes this was the best one, and yes we have a lot of work to do to make next years event bigger and better but we will certainly try very hard to do just that and hopefully we can get Mother Nature to cooperate like she did this year. |
