Wicke A Winner! (Again)

K&K TEAM CLAIMS SECOND CAREER IRON MAN AT U.S. 131
 For the second time in two years the Stratford, ON based IHRA Top Sportsman team from K&K Racing & Performance took home the Iron Man in the very tough Top Sportsman class. Last season the team won the Mopar Canadian Nationals at their home track in Grand Bend, this year it was at the IHRA Torco Fuels Northern Nationals in Martin, MI.
Driver Kevin Wicke put the K&K LeBaron in the field in the number 39 spot and went through 6 rounds of competition to get the victory. The K&K team is no stranger to the final round at this event, they also had Runner-Up finishes in 2002 and 2004.
“It was good to get the monkey of our back at this event. We either do really well or really bad. We did not want another plaque with Runner-Up on it from this place” driver Kevin Wicke said. In the early rounds Wicke faced the Wojnowski’s, son Gary Jr. in round 2 and Gary Sr. in round 3. “There are certain people here that make it so much fun to race, they are just good people. After round 3 I thought she (Mrs. Wojnowski) was going to kick my butt at top end but she was there telling us to go finish it and win it all” stated Wicke. Crew Chief Kevin Zimmer said he just had a feeling. “Our first qualifier didn’t go to well and we made some chassis changes that seemed to help. Once we qualified and had everything in one piece I just got this feeling that is was going to be a good weekend. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to put a jinx on us. We definitely got some breaks this weekend but that is the way it goes sometimes”.
Zimmer who is the Marketing Manager for Bear's Performance Products was a busy man on the weekend as he was also helping the boss with the Pro Stock. “I love helping Larry, Wayne and Matt with the Pro Stocker whenever I can but when you have 2 cars going rounds in makes it pretty tough” The Bear's Performance Products Pro Stock went all the way to the finals and came up short against Frank Gugliotta.
The K&K Team (Kevin, Kevin and Dan Culliton) would like to thank all their marketing partners who have been a big part of their success. Perth Auto Dismantlers, Fram Canada, CVR, Parts Pro, Fastpixs Digital Media and Bear's Performance Products have all been supporters of the team for a number of years. The K&K team will now prepare for the IHRA Motor City Nationals in Milan, MI August 24-26.
