Street Legal Series Round 3 Report
Mark Ackert - August 9, 2007
The only thing hotter than the racing action at Toronto Motorsport Park for the Street Legal Series race #3 was the temperature. During qua lifying on Saturday, racers were challenged by the intense heat to get their combination set up right so they wouldn’t overpower the track. By the time elimination rolled around on Sunday the track temperature was down slightly which made for better conditions for these small tire monsters to hook.
If the temperature wasn't hot enough for Super Street competitor Larry Dean of Bowmanville then the heat from the fire under the hood of his 1970 Chevelle should have been enough to make him sweat. Luckily Dean was able to exit the car in time to avoid being injured but his Chevelle on the other hand sustained extensive damage from the fire. After a rough first round for competitors the semis turned into the finals as only two cars were left standing. Rocky Delicce had his bad ass blown 68 Chevelle running hard all weekend long. He would find himself lined up against the yellow Pro Charger Firebird of Mike Yedgarian in the final round. After both cars obliterated their tires with violent burnouts, the two cars sat at the line with the top bulbs lit. A classic burn down would ensue with neither racer budging. After what seemed like minutes, Delicce rolled in with Yedgarian close behind. Not phased by the wait, Yedgarian lit the tree on fire with a .034 light leaving Delicce a car length behind right off the line. Yedgarian pulled hard but had the candles go out around half track allowing Delicce to motor by clicking off a 7.31 at 198mph to take the win.
Bill Richardson seems to have his 89 Mustang set to Bracket mode. 8.03, 8.02 and then an 8.07 in the finals would be enough to give the London, Ontario resident the EZ Street win over fellow Mustang racer Joe Carano who hails from Palgrave, Ontario. Carano fell a little off the pace and could only manage an 8.69 at 146mph in the finals against Richardson's 8.07 at 163mph.
True Street finals would see the 89 Mustang of Enzo Pecchino up against the 88 Mustang of Steve Falle. Pecchino left in front of Falle and never looked back running 8.60 at 162mph to Falle's 9.02 at 159mph.
Luciano Vitelli had his high flying 95 Mustang out for race #3 and didn't miss a beat as he would put the littl e red Stang in the final round running against the 69 Camaro of Jeff Biro. Vitelli got out of the hole first but Biro's Camaro came on strong at the top end and edged by to take the win running 8.80 at 154mph to Vitelli's 8.97 at 155mph.
Other winners include:
Glenn Luuk of Richmond Hill, Ont driving his 77 Volare would defeat Don Riehl of Burgessville, Ont and his 83 Mustang in the Open Comp final.
