Bateman and Crew Get Ready For Finals
With A Solid Outing in Atlanta.

Anyone who has not been to Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia and says that it’s “just another track” has not been to Atlanta Dragway. Humidity, elevation above sea level and the stout competition in the NHRA’s Division 2 make qualifying a chore in itself. Every year the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series descends for the annual Division 2 event at Atlanta Dragway and every year Atlanta Dragway never disappoints.

Roger and the Friesen Motorsports/Nobel Biocare Top Alcohol Funny Car racing team handled the above and managed to qualify in a field of heavy hitters in the alcohol ranks such as Championship combatants Jay Payne and Frank Manzo. Roger ran a 5.885, 250.55 mph to qualify #7 on Saturday and had to face Frank Manzo who has been on a tear down race tracks all over the country. The Friesen Motorsports/Noble Biocare Top Alcohol Funny Car racing team was unintimidated as they readied the race car for battle on the fabled quarter mile. With the temperatures in the mid-80’s on race day and a mix of sun and light cloud cover Bateman and Manzo faced off. The driver nicknamed “Ace” defeated Bateman 5.55, 260.36 mph to Roger’s 5.655, 252.00 mph as the car got out of the groove near half track and Roger had to fight it down the last 1/8th mile.

The crew may now get ready for another Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series race in Reynolds, GA in one week or regroup to prepare for the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, CA the first week of November.
