Show Me The Money -- '08 Advance Tour Info
Arnie Malcolm - October 30, 2007
A NUMBER OF DATES FOR THE 2008 BENSON AUTO PARTS SMTM TOUR HAVE BEEN FINALIZED:
With the racing season only being over for a month or so, a lot of work has been going on already getting set for next years summer of fun. One of the first things of importance is of course the dates for the Benson Auto Parts Show Me the Money Tour, the richest drag racing series in Canada and the summer of 2008 will see that series get even richer as at least one stop on the Tour (North Bay) has already committed to raising the prize money in what is already a huge payout event. The series will once again kick off in North Bay at the King of The Hill Dragway on June 20-21-22, this event will in 2008 see some incredible expansion both in prize money and the over all event itself. Friday will see a full day of racing with a lot of emphasis being put on the Street Eliminator Class, as well as a Gamblers Race, and a night of fire featuring Jet Cars under the lights. The huge crowds that have been part of the North Bay event since its conception 6 years ago have made way for a new 5 year contract for the event to see it run through to at least 2012 and beyond. Besides the addition of the Friday and Friday night events North Bay as we mentioned earlier this fall will be increasing the payouts in both Super Pro and Semi Pro to become the richest stop on the tour besides Luskville Dragway's Bracket Bonanza. We will have a full story on this once the exact totals have been established, but I can tell you that at least 2 or more teams are planning on extra cars for this event in 2008. The Second stop on the tour will take place as it has for 10 years now in Elliot Lake, Ontario on July 11-12-13, this is the oldest road event the tour has and is always a fun stop for everyone involved as the Town Elliot Lake rolls out the red carpet to greet over 400 entrées. The third stop on in the series will once again come back to Luskville Dragway and the running of the 29th Annual Ottawa Sun Bracket Bonanza, August 1-2-3 the oldest and richest drag race of this type in Canada, with Super Pro drivers running for $10,000. to win both Saturday and Sunday and Semi Pro running for $2000. on Sat and $5000. on Sunday. The "Bracket" is also going to see some changes this year as a full tilt NON POINTS race will take place under the lights Friday night, taking it back to its original format many, many years ago. So drivers make plans on arriving on Thursday for what will certainly be the biggest race in the history of this event. As of right now the series will then take month off before returning to Luskville Dragway and the Mr. Transmission Fall Bracket Finals Aug 29-30-31, however that could change as hopes are high the a new stop on the tour might be announced for August 15-16-17. The Mr. Transmission Fall Bracket Finals is with out question one of the most laid back events on the tour and has the famous Mr. T driver picnic which anyone who has been part of will quickly point out, IS GREAT. The final Stop on for the series will once again come at Shannonville Motorsports Park Dragway, Sept 12-13-14 for the 1000 Islands Fall Classic an event that gets bigger and bigger each and year, and rumors running rampant that purse wise it could become much bigger. The series is with out question one of the most successful aspects of true Canadian Drag Racing as it has lasted for over a dozen years now and has grown with great leaps and bounds do mostly to the involvement of Benson Auto Parts the largest chain of Auto Parts Stores in Canada.
