Lou Pereira is one of only a handful of licensed Canadian jet car drivers. After paying his dues drag racing locally with a Super Pro '74 Vega at Cayuga International Motorsports Park for five years, Pereira made the radical step into the world of 300 mph Jet Dragsters during the mid 2000 racing season. Pereira got his chance to license and then race under the watchful eye of Lou Brookman and in Brookman's "Chariot of Fire" machine. By season's end he had run as fast as 314 mph in the car.
Early in 2001, Pereira outright purchased the "Chariot of Fire" jet dragster operation from Brookman. Enhancements were made to the Dan Page-built dragster which features a kerosene-burning General Electric J-85 jet engine that produces 6000 lbs of trust. Pereira's dragster which is 335" long from nose cone to thrust exhaust, weighs only 1250 lbs, but features an amazing 8000 HP. The dragster is outfitted with Goodyear tires and features a stunning paint scheme by Larry Williams.
Lou Brookman remains a team consultant and tuner to Pereira as he entered his inaugural full racing season in 2001. The car will tour extensively and be active at numerous drag strips in the Northeast U.S. and Eastern Canada. A summer hop to the Caribbean is also planned with racing appearances in Puerto Rico, Bermuda and the Island of St. Croix already booked.
Lou Pereira is self-employed and the owner of Platinum Awning Co. (Mississauga, ON). The team is actively seeking corporate sponsorship for it's high speed, professional and exciting race day presentations.
