Driver Bob Chovance, who is a Traffic Supervisor at the Dofasco steel mill in Hamilton, is no stranger to Southern Ontario's drag racing scene. His racing roots date back to 1978 when he ran a '69 Cougar in Pro ET. From 1983 to 1997 he campaigned a Ford Capri in Super Pro.
That 9.0 secs car was a frequent late round runner including final round appearances at Super Ford events in Milan, MI., and at Reading, PA. In 1998, Bob Chovance was a two time Quick 8 Shootout winner at Cayuga International Dragway Park. During his Super Pro racing career he finished in the final top ten in points at Cayuga five times.
Bob Chovance switched brands to Chevrolet for the 1999 season. The stunning preparation of his race car was recognized immediately. Its first public appearance came at the '99 Performance World car show in Toronto. There Bob collected three awards: Best Engineered, Best Competition Car and Class Champion. On the race track, progress has been steady. The team's first ever "seven" came at Cayuga during the year 2000, a year which saw Chovance Racing finish fourth in final C.D.R.S. Pro Comp points despite being rookies to the class.
Chovance Racing cites the valuable support of Wills Chev/Olds (Smithville), Pro Fuels (Mississauga), Parts Connection (Hamilton) and Smithville Pizzeria for it's successes to date.
