Bruce Boland, who owns and operates B&B Automotive (Hamilton, ON) is a highly respected name within Eastern Canada's Pro Modified and Quick 8 scene. During the 2000 racing season Boland began running a 1933 Willys which he purchased from U.S.-based racer Johnny Rocca. Boland completed numerous upgrades to that car. It is powered by a 526 CID Keith Black engine that was built by Canadian Ed Wiens. Utilizing a Kobelco supercharger the alcohol-burning powerplant produces an estimated 2100+ HP. Boland's Excel Motorsports uses Dart cylinder heads, a Crower clutch and a 3-speed Lenco transmission in their car.
Prior to racing the Willys, Bruce Boland's racing background included a Super Pro Chevelle and a dragster before he switched to supercharged doorslammers in 1990. After first campaigning a Corvette purchased from Bob Nagy, he began running his popular "Radical Canadian" dubbed machines -- first a supercharged Chevy Lumina and then a Chevy Camaro. Boland experimented for a time on the Nitro Coupe circuit during which he recorded his career best time of 6.48 secs during a Super Chevy event at Richmond, VA in 1998. In 1999 he raced an L&J-chassed supercharged 1963 Corvette primarily within Canada's CDRS circuit.
Bruce Boland's racing accomplishments include a prestigious win during the 1996 Halloween Classic event at Norwalk Raceway Park in Ohio when he won the Oddy's sponsored "Frantic Four" Shootout driving his Chevy Lumina. In the year 2000 he won the Omega Quick 8 Top Sportsman shootout during the inaugural IHRA Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals which is arguably his biggest career victory to date. That same year, he also won a Pro Modified Quick 8 feature at Lancaster NY. and placed a strong fourth in final year 2000 Canadian Drag Racing Series season points.
Boland's machine remains a popular fan attraction within the Canadian Drag Racing Series, and at select Super Chevy, and regional IHRA Top Sportsman events. Boland cites valuable guidance from Jim Oddy as his teacher and mentor in the fast paced Pro Modified category. When not racing himself, Bruce Boland is an active participant within North America's NMCA and NSCA Pro Street car scene as a crewmember and tuning consultant for U.S. racer Mike Swinarski.
