Georges Leveques is owner and operator of Giant Tire Specialists, a company that specializes in giant off-road tire applications. Levesques has been active on the Canadian racing scene for 30 years. In 1990 his team purchased the 1988 Ford Thunderbird which was formally raced by Bob Glidden. He campaigned that car successfully in Ontario and Quebec until 1999.
For the 2000 season Georges Levesque will debut a new 1999 Ford Mustang, which was delivered from Jerry Bickel Race Cars in St. Louis, MO. A 812 CID Ford Mountain Motor which was also taken to St. Louis for freshening and dyno work by builder Ed Dixon will power the car. That engine features Holley Carburetors and Hooker Headers.
The Mustang, which weighs in at 2380 lbs can be run both with a four or five speed Lenco transmission and with 4:77 or 4:88 rear end gear ratios. The versatile car can be campaigned in either IHRA Pro Stock or Top Sportsman trim. According to horsepower and weight calculations the 1999 Mustang (which is 44 lbs lighter then the Thunderbird), should be capable of speeds in the 6.80 seconds range at near 210 mph.
Giant Tire Racing plans to attend as many races as possible in 2000, including match racing and test sessions at various Quebec and Southwest Ontario drag strips. An appearance at the Inaugural IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals (at Grand Bend, ON) is also planned. The self-funded, family-orientated racing team, will be overseen in 2000 by crew chief and tuner Dale Sproule who will employ RacePak on-board computer technology. The professional looking team has also taken delivery of a truck and trailer for the 2000 racing tour.
