Vancouver's Rob Harrison is recognized as one of British Columbia's top drag racers. After emerging on the scene in 1968 he has run a series of cars including '57 Chevy, '64 Corvette and '85 Corvette gassers prior to acquiring a Chevy Beretta and more recently a Chevy Cavalier. His career highlights are many including numerous "Best Engineered" awards not the least of which was during the prestigious 1999 NHRA Prolong Northwest Nationals in Seattle. Rob's 1988 racing season may have been his personal best. That year he set the NHRA national record in F/G while driving a Corvette and placed runner-up in Competition eliminator at no less then five divisional points races while enroute to a second place finish in overall points.

Rob Harrison and his partner Al Lougheed continue to campaign some of North America's most unique NHRA Competition eliminator cars. After the team acquired their Chevy Beretta in 1995 (a former Pro Stock car raced by Bruce Allen) they entered into a gruelling R&D program -- the end result of which was a unique "in-line" 6-cylinder 343 CID "Deppe" motor. That one-of-a-kind (Australian origin) engine block features a custom built cylinder head designed and conceived by Brad Claridge (Performance Developments Edmonton, AB) and a lap top programmable fuel-injection system. The revolutionary car ran within NHRA's Competition eliminator division.

During the 2002 racing season the car ran roughshod over NHRA's official record book setting and then resetting the class standard no less the three different times during events held at Sonoma, CA., Woodburn, OR and Mission, BC. At season's end 2002, they held the national J/A marks for both the 1/4-mile and 1/8-mile.

The team's truly unique power plant has received extensive dyno testing time and is rated well over 700 HP. That engine R&D is a continuing function with the team developing significant additional power improvement at every step.

In late 2004 the team completed assembly of a spectacular new Don Ness-built racecar, around their engine program. The infamous IGOR motor is now nestled into the frame rails of a 7/8 scale 2004 Chevy Cavalier. The car is a technological marvel including programmable shocks and a parachute, which is deployed by air. The first full run netted the team a spectacular 7.94 secs ET at 169.10 mph (at Woodburn Oregon in October) well under NHRA’s J/Altered national index of 8.56 secs.

The Harrison/Lougheed Racing team remains indebted to the expertise and support of Les Davenport at Acceleration Enterprises, Ron Parr from Parr's Patriot Rods, cylinder head specialist Brad Claridge (from Edmonton) and Brad Lystocken of Brad's Automotive Machine in Calgary. (Brad's Automotive is the same shop which propelled Calgary's Jirka Kaplan to record-setting sub-index performances in 2004 and who have been behind Rob Harrison's racing efforts since day one). Associate sponsors for Harrison/Lougheed Racing include Comp Cams, Amsoil, and Autolite.
