John McIntyre, a relative newcomer to Canadas Super Stock scene in fact crossed over to drag racing from D.I.R.T. circuit where he was a successful late model and Sportsman class car owner. During his nine years in that form of racing he earned over thirty event wins and two track championships. He acquired his Chevy S-10 in mid 1999 after a short stint driving a 1970 Super Stock Chevy Nova.
The Hydro Vac Race Team Chevy S-10 was built by Smith Performance Specialties (Cayuga, ON). Weighing in at 3015 lbs the truck features a sheet metal body, a four link suspension and paint by Hanks Auto Body (Dunnville, ON). The team employees a 350 CID 550 HP engine by FJ Smith. They run a single 4-barrel Rochester carburetor and 041 Chevy head built at David Dupps Heads Up. John McIntrye first campaigned his truck in Super Pro during his break in period. McIntrye won in Super Pro at Cayuga -- going six rounds -- in only his second time out in the truck.
The truck was then switched to the GT/TA class in September of 1999. In that trim McIntyre ran 10.04 secs right off the trailer during his first time out in NHRA class competition (Orlando, Florida). The team ran its first nine : 9.971 secs at Delmar, DE in April of 2000.
Race fans can see the truck frequent the UAP/Napa/Dana/Smith Performance Stock/Super Stock circuit as well as regional NHRA and IHRA events. John McIntyre plans to compete his Chevy S-10 at the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN., and at the NHRA AAA Auto Club Finals at Pomona, CA., later this season.
Primary funding comes from Hydro Vac Industrial Marine Services which John McIntrye is President. Hydro Vac is licensed for and specializes in wet and dry vacuum and waste hauling and currently services 65 plants in Southern Ontario. Associate sponsorship comes from Hanks Auto Body (Dunnville), Gary Riley at Central Motors (Fonthill) and from Venice and Lorraine Perno at Performance Cellar (Stoney Creek). McIntyre cites valuable support from fellow Super Stock class racers F.J. Smith, Wayne Truesdell, Dave Thomas and Bucky Hess for his success to date.
