John Ulinskas campaigns one of Canada's cleanest looking and top performing Buick stock eliminator cars. The 1971 Grand Sport F/SA which was formally raced by Ohio's Dick Baker has always been raced in NHRA and IHRA legal stock eliminator. Ulinskas acquired this car in 1994. Powered by a 455 CID engine (built by John Ulinskas) a JPT Transmission, 4.10 gears and Hoosier slicks are used to motivate the 3750 lbs car.
Ulinskas began his drag racing career in 1988 at the wheel of a 1982 Mustang. Running in Pro ET, he placed 5th in final Pro ET points at Cayuga International in 1992. Since switching to Stock eliminator has had some impressive runs including a win at the Buick Nationals (Norwalk, OH) in 1997 and 3rd round finishes at the NHRA national events in Columbus, OH (1997) and at Maple Grove, PA (1998).
The biggest career day for John Ulinskas came during the Inaugural 2000 IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend, ON., when he won the Stock eliminator championship title. That first career national event win came in what was his first career IHRA national event start. The Ulinskas Buick is also a common sight within Eastern Canada's UAP/NAPA/Dana Smith Performance Stock/Super Stock circuit. In 1999 -- his rookie season in that circuit -- Ulinskas finished second in the final points tally.
John Ulinskas, who is employed as a mechanic at Oakland Ford (Oakville, ON) does all his own race car maintenance.
