The drag racing partnership of Larry Dobbs and Fred Speight has stood the test of time. First formed in 1973 the Ontario-based duo has achieved legendary status within Canada's drag racing scene. Driver Larry Dobbs has built a reputation for his fearless driving style which ultimately validates the team's "Kardiac Kids" nickname.
During the team's first two years of existence they in fact raced a Top Alcohol Dragster. After that however it has been nothing but a series of Funny Cars. That includes a Ford Pinto, a Datsun 240Z, a Pontiac Firebird, two Chevrolet Luminas, a Chevy Camaro and most recently a Chevrolet Corvette C-5.
The Kardiac Kids remain active and a serious threat within the IHRA's Summit Drag Racing Series. Their 2001 Corvette, which debuted in mid 2000, features the first funny car chassis ever constructed by T&C and is powered by a 540 CID TFX motor. That engine features Ken Veney cylinder heads and a conventional Littlefield roots supercharger which the team spins at 54% overdrive. A Lenco 3-speed transmission is employed.
Crew chief Fred Speight oversees all the team tuning and mechanical functions. Speight, who also works for Riggeal's Performance Fiberglass is credited with designing and constructing the car's Corvette body. Previously, Speight also did the Chevy Lumina and Camaro bodies for Riggeals.
Team accomplishments are many. The team has three IHRA national event wins to its credit and multiple top ten finishes in IHRA World Championship points. They are former IHRA national record holders and pole qualifiers.
The team car is presently co-owned by Canadian Pro Mod racer Larry Sinke. (See: Hammer Racing Team Profile)
Primary sponsorship comes from Sportz Tents (St. Catherines, ON) who has been with the team for six seasons and from St. Catherines Concrete. Associate sponsors include Riggeal's Performance Fiberglass (Pennsylvania), Quaker State, Champion, Pro Fuels and Hanks Auto Body (Dunnville).
