Ian Gellately has played an intricate part in Western Canadas drag racing scene for over thirty years. In addition to owning and driving race cars, he has also served as a crew member on the famous North West Nitro Funny Cars campaigned by Twig Ziegler and Gordie Bonin as well as the Top Fuel dragster run by Mike Palmer. Ians drag racing accomplishments have already earned him an induction into the Mopac Auto Supply Hall of Fame. A certified journeyman Automotive Technician, Gallately also has his S.F.I. Bronze Level rating as a NHRA Tech Inspector.
Ian currently races on the popular I.B.A.A. circuit driving his fan favorite Madd Hatter Dodge Challenger in that 7.50 secs competition. The vintage machine features a homebuilt 125 chrome moly chassis. Power comes from an alcohol-burning Chrysler 392 CID Hemi which features a 8/71 Mooneyham blower and a Enderle Birdcatcher that was reworked by Les Davenport (Acceleration Enterprises). A 727 automatic transmission transfers power to a Ford 9 rear end equipped with 4:30 gears.
The best 1/4 mile time to date has been 7.782 secs at 179.55 mph run at Saskatchewan International Raceway in 1999. On the 1/8th mile, Gallately has a quick 5.052 secs at 149.09 mph to his credit (Medicine Hat Motorplex in 1999). The teams best 60 foot time is .998 secs which came at Edmonton in 1997.
