MAGEAU FAMILY RACING campaigns Canada's only '57 Chevy-bodied Funny Car. The "Prospector" which was first debuted at the beginning of the 2000 season remains highly active on the (7.50 secs) International Blown Alcohol Association (I.B.A.A.) circuit in Western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The machine, which has now raced in that circuit for three full seasons, is undisputed as a fan favorite.
A custom built all fiberglass '57 Chevy body cloaks a state-of-the-art 2000 FM/FC Arctic Chassis which was built by Ken Sitko. Power comes from a supercharged methanol-burning 468 CID big block Chevrolet which was assembled by Bob Mageau after machining at Pro Stock Performance (Edmonton). That engine features H.V.H. Heads, a 8-71 Littlefield blower and Enderle fuel system. A Lenco 3-speed transmission, East/West Clutch and a 9 inch Ford rear end assembly are also employed.
Jay Mageau has been active on Western Canada's drag racing scene ever since he first earned his drivers license. He raced a '78 Monte Carlo (Street ET), a '75 Nova (Super Pro) and then a normally aspirated altered in NHRA Super Comp (8.90). Prior to the debut of his '57 Chevy Funny Car, Mageau ran a supercharged 23T for two seasons. Jay's father Bob traces his drag racing roots as far back as 1965.
Bob Mageau drove the first "The Prospector" '57 Chevy in NHRA Stock eliminator and followed that with a line of both front and rear-engined Competition eliminator dragsters during the 1970's. Bob Mageau also drove in the Top Alcohol Dragster category -- running that class in an ex Top Fuel car acquired from Terry Capp. Jay's daughter Simone is next in line following the Mageau family drag racing tradition. Simone, began racing a Junior Dragster in 1996 to become a third generation family racer.
Mageau Family Racing receives valuable support from Teamsters Union Local 362 (who avidly support the Children's Variety Club).
