Miller & MacCallum are regarded as one of Canadas most recognized and talented drag racing teams. After forming their racing partnership in 1982, the duo has consistently fielded Canadas fastest Super Stock Chrysler products. Highly regarded on the NHRA Super Stock circuit -- Miller & MacCallums best season may have come in 1994 when they won drag racings ultimate event -- a U.S. Nationals championship. Later that same season driver Don MacCallum made a barrier breaking run. He became the first Super Stock racer in history to dip sub 9.00 secs in the SS/AA class when he ran an historic 8.999 secs during an event held in Orlando, FL. The team also has a number of SS/AA class eliminator wins to its credit. Regarded as one of the most prestigious Sportsman prizes -- their SS/AA class titles include wins at Indianapolis., IN and Reading PA.
Since their team formation Miller & MacCallum have campaigned a total of five record smashing Hemi-powered cars. Four were 68 Plymouth Barracudas and one was a 68 Dodge Dart. Their current race car features a Don MacCallum Machine built 426 CID Hemi which is factory rated at 500 HP.
The quick-leaving and hard-running machine features a 525 CID big block Chevy engine with Bowtie heads which Mario machined and assembled at his own Gourgue Racing Engine shop. On the dyno that motor has produced 830 HP. Internal components include a Crower crank, Eagle rods, GE pistons and a Comp camshaft. A single 1050 Holley carburetor delivers a fuel/air mix through an Edelbrock intake manifold.
In reality that engine produces in excess of 800 HP! Using a Dynamic torque converter, a 904 Automatic Transmission and a Dana 60 rear end the 3170 lbs car ran back-to-back 8.90 secs elapsed times during the Dutch Classic event at Reading PA in 1998 -- its best performance to date.
MacCallum builds all of the team engines from his own facility -- Don MacCallum Machine (L&M Automotive). MacCallum also builds engines for other top running SS/AA class racers including U.S. based racers Randy Hopkins, Eddie & Michael Smith, Jim Keyes and Frank Lupo. Doug Miller is the owner and operator of Fireball Automatics -- a high performance transmission building shop located in Williamsburg, ON.
The teams racing activities are largely self financed with associate sponsorship provided by L&M Automotive, Fireball Automatics, Chris at Comp Cams and Dynamic Torque Converters. Miller & MacCallum are actively seeking major sponsorship partners.
