Edmontons Mark Campbell is regarded as one of Canadas fastest rising star racers. Since coming on the racing scene in 1995 at age 16, and following in the racing footsteps of his father Don Campbell, he has amassed some serious credentials. Mark Campbell in fact won his first Super Comp race in what was only his second time in competition (@ Saskatoon in 1995). Since then his accomplishments include multiple Super Comp track championship titles at Edmonton and Calgary, and winning the overall NHRA Western Canadian National Open points chase four different times (1995-97, 1999). Mark Campbell added to his resume during the year 2001 when while racing in NHRAs fast new Top Comp category for the first time, he claimed yet another NHRA Canadian National Open points championship. Campbell had 2 wins and one runner-up while claiming that four-event circuit title.
Mark Campbell currently drives a 240 chrome moly chassied rear-engined dragster. The machine was conceived and assembled completely in-house by Campbell Automotive Racing with help from Henry Hearn. Fellow Edmonton-area FMD racers Kenny Sitko and Serge Dion, assisted in constructing the race cars body panels which are also homebuilt. A 555 CID big block Chevrolet is used for power. That motor was expertly assembled at Campbell Automotive, is rated at 1000+ HP. It features Dart 360 aluminium heads, a Competition Cams camshaft and valve train, a Lunati crankshaft, Bill Miller aluminium rods and Weisco pistons. Two 1050 Holley Dominators mounted on a Dart intake manifold and Borla stainless steel headers are also employed. New for 2004 is a Pro Fogger NOS system which has been added, giving the car up to 450 HP more. A 2-speed powerglide transmission (by Campbell Automotive) outfitted with a 9 TCS converter is used to transfer the power.
Ken Weiagan did the race cars bright red paint and the lettering was applied by Surfer Joe.
Sponsorship for Mark Campbells racing ventures comes primarily from Campbell Automotive which was established by Don Campbell in 1980. Campbell Automotive is the facility of choice for many of Western Canadas top rated drag racers. Valuable associate backing comes from TCS Converters, Shoppers Auto Body and CanTorque.
