Dragin Don Murray has been a Canadian history maker driving his nitrous-injected 56 Corvette Pro Street car. Murray, from White Rock BC., is recognized as Canadas quickest and fastest Pro Street racer using DOT (Street legal) tires.
Murrays Corvette was in fact a former A/Gas drag car acquired from California. Over five years that car which came with its original ownership title and factory serial number, was converted by Murray for Fast Street class racing. The car melds numerous original factory parts including chassis, doors, trunk lid and hood, with the latest in Fast Street car racing technology. Power comes from a 648 CID all aluminium Chevrolet engine (assembled by Ron Parr (Langley BC) that is rated at 1250 HP (without nitrous oxide). EPD cylinder heads by Sonny Leonard and a single stage NOS fogger system are also utilized. Power is transferred via Trans Specialties built 2-speed powerglide transmission (equipped with a lockup) through a Ford 9 rear end and ultimately to Hoosier tires mounted on Weld Wheels. The car, which is in fact driven occasionally on the street weighs in at 2600 lbs, with driver. Body and green and white paint was expertly completed by Port Kells Collision.
Don Murrays accomplishments have been many. He is recognized as the first ever Pro Street driver in Western Canada to dip into the seven seconds zone using DOT tires -- after an historic 7.97 secs clocking at Mission Raceway in May of 1999. Murray was the 2000 Canada West Doorslammers circuit season champion. In 2001 he became the first and only Pro Street driver to win a prestigious NHRA Wally -- in fact winning twice, at Mission BC and Bremerton WA. He ended the 2001 season as the CPRA (Canadian Pro Street Association) champion and record holder. Don Murray also races his Corvette within NHRAs new Top Comp class and has an event win and runner-up to his credit so far.

Don Murray is recognized as a driving force behind Canadas Western Pro Street car racing scene. He along with Glen Braid and Richard Schultz was a co-founder of the Canadian Pro Street Association. Don Murray is currently the President and founder of the International Street Car Association.
