The 1968 Chevelle Stock eliminator car campaigned by Don Ahrens has stood the test of time. After first acquiring the classic Chevy Malibu in 1979, Ahrens has raced and meticulously maintained that car ever since. Power for the 3375 lbs machine comes from a 327 CID engine which Ahrens built himself and its 275 HP rating is delivered through a 2-speed Powerglide transmission prepared by Hutch's Transmission in London, Ontario. Don Ahrens employs Phoenix Tires (supplied by Ben Grievers B/T Tires Woodstock) that are mounted on Cragar wheels. Other important components include Hooker Headers and a carburetor by Val Hedworth.
Don Ahrens has raced his Chevelle on both sides of Canada. While living in British Columbia he ran the car in ET Brackets and placed runner-up in final Divisional points during the 1984 season. While racing in the West in Heavy eliminator, he won numerous event ET Bracket racing titles. In 1988 the car was built to NHRA legal Stock eliminator specifications where it has remained ever since. Ahrens moved to Ontario in 1994 and ever since then has been a power to be reckoned within Eastern Canadas dynamic Can-Am Stock/Super Stock circuit. In fact Ahrens is a two-time points champion of the UAP/Napa/Dana Smith Performance series, winning both the 1998 and 2000 year titles. Ahrens has multi Can-Am Stock/Super Stock event wins to his credit.
Don Ahrens is particularly proud of the reliability and consistency of his race car. His next goal is to win at the National event level and as a result attends regional IHRA national event races. Don Ahrens, who is employed as a TMMC at Toyotas Cambridge, ON plant, is also thankful to his wife Jane and his family for their continued support of his weekend racing ventures.
Associate sponsorship for Don Ahrens Racing comes from John Waldie (Stratford Motor Products), Jutzi Fuels, Parkdale Automotive (Stratford) and Rons Precision Machine.
