Sledge Hammer Racing is a two-car operation campaigned by Ontario speed merchants Rob Hachie and Steve Jaciw. Hachie, who is the team engine builder and owner of Pro Street Performance (Whitby, ON) drives the teams new L&J chassied rear-engined dragster. That car, which was new to the Ontario Pro Comp/Top Dragster scene during the year 2001, features a surcharged and alcohol-burning 516 CID Chevrolet engine. The dragster also features a fuel system by Jim Oddy, a 12-71 Littlefield blower, a Hays 3-disc clutch and a Lenco 3-speed transmission. Hachie employs a Mark Williams full floater rear end assembly equipped with 4.30 gears,
and giant Goodyear 34.5x16x17 slicks mounted on Cragar rims.
Steve Jaciw drives the teams outrageous supercharged 74 Monte Carlo. That car, which was formally street driven has undergone a major evolution over the years to its present mid-seven secs drag strip capability. Jaciw, who is well known in Southern Ontario by race fans for his wild half track burnouts uses a 540 CID supercharged Chevrolet (by Jim Oddy) that was assembled by Hachie to power the 3800 lbs race car. The unique Monte Carlo body of his Blue Thunder racecar is in fact a combination of steel and fibreglass. The frame is a combination of stock Chevrolet and a Bears 4-link rear clip. Jaciw employs a Hays 3-disc clutch and a Lenco 3-speed transmission to harness the 1800+ available horsepower. Other important components include Dart 360 solid cylinder heads, a 14-71 Hi-Helix supercharger and Moroso and Lakewood suspension parts.
While relative newcomers to Eastern Canadas drag racing scene Hachie and Jaciw are fast becoming recognized area names. The exciting new team is focused on Southern Ontarios Pro Comp/Top Dragster/Top Sportsman circuit -- in particular the points championship chase at Grand Bend Motorplex.
Primary sponsorship for Sledge Hammer Racing comes from Pro Street Performance (Whitby) and Steves Auto Repair (Brooklyn). Metro Transmissions (Scarborough) provides valuable associate support.
