Since 1993 Dave Bell has campaigned one of Canadas best appearing and hardest running Mopar door cars. During that time Bells 1993 Dodge Daytona has undergone a significant evolution. The original chassis, built by Eddy Bryck, has received numerous upgrades to its present form which were done primarily by Tom VanDerGeld at Lowdown Hot Rods (Cambridge). Now all chrome molly dual rail and rated at 25:1, the frame is cloaked by an all fibreglass body by Hairy Glass.
Power for the unique machine comes from a 604 CID Iron block Mopar engine built by Nick Agostino and Wade Stevens of Agostino Racing Engines (Pickering). Rated at 1600 HP with a dual stage NOS nitrous-oxide system, the motor employs Indy cylinder heads, a Competition camshaft and twins Holley 1050 carburetors. Power is transferred through a Hayes dual disc clutch and a Lenco 4-speed transmission to a Dana rear end assembly before ultimately being delivered to Hoosier slicks mounted on Weld Wheels.
Prior to racing his car which weights 2575 lbs with the 604 CID motor, Bell campaigned using a 452 CID iron wedge motor. With that, his car went 7.88 secs at 168 mph using production iron cylinder heads. That performance gained Bell some notoriety for being the fastest of its time with the configuration.
Prior to campaigning his Daytona Bell raced a 440 CID 1970 Dodge Challenger. That car started out as a fast Street car in 1978 and evolved into a 10 seconds Super Pro machine. Dave Bells racing operation remains a fun orientated one. He takes great pride in not only the appearance of his machine but also in tuning the car and incremental gains in performance. The racer is a frequent runner within Grand Bend Motorplexs season Top Sportsman series but also does participate at select IHRA national event dates.
Dave Bells Daytona has featured a couple of superb paint schemes which he applies himself. That has earned him numerous awards at area car shows. Associate sponsorship for Bell Racing is provided by Pro Racing Fuels, Agostino Racing Engines and LowDown Hot Rods.
