The 2002 drag racing season saw Serge Dion embark on his own racing program following a very successful 3-year driving stint for fellow Edmonton-based racer Ken Sitko. Following that amicable parting, Dion did numerous upgrades to the 292-inch Sitko-chassed car including a new look and new technology. Powered by a Keith Black 526 CID engine, that motor is now outfitted with a Littlefield/Kobelco supercharger and a carbon fibre injector hat. Important internal engine components include JE Pistons, Brooks rods and a Bryant crankshaft. The race car is also equipped with an MSD 44 ignition system, Lenco 3-speed transmission and Goodyear slicks mounted on Weld Wheels.
Serge Dion has been a dedicated Canadian drag racer since he first hit the track at age 18 while living in Quebec City. He moved to Alberta and then during the mid 1980s campaigned a 9-seconds 81 Camaro in conjunction with Rob Leblanc. Serge Dion got his first taste of Top Alcohol Dragster racing in 1993 when he hooked up with Ken Sitkos brother Steve. He was a crewman for Steve Sitkos TAD team until 1997 and then began driving for Ken Sitko during the 1998 season.
Despite being an independent, Dions TAD racing resume has been impressive. In only his second race out in the class in 1998 he won the NHRA National Open title at Edmonton in dramatic style. After taking that final round win light the car went off the end of the race track and flipped when the parachutes malfunctioned. The team responded quickly from that incident however and completed repairs in time to attend and win the AHRA World Finals event in Spokane -- only 3-weeks later. Dion and Sitko also claimed the Top Alcohol Dragster title at the 2000 AHRA World Finals. Serge has to his credit a runner-up finish at the NHRA National Open at Race City in 2000 and a win a Mission Raceways NHRA National Open in 2002. The 2002 season also saw Serge Dion record his first ever 5 -- a pair of 5.97 secs elapsed times, while racing at Mission Raceway Park.
