Now for something totally different! A "Buick " (that's correct) Buick-powered Top Sportsman car! Not only is it Canada's fastest it is probably Canadas only Buick-powered Top Sportsman machine.
Dave Mongeon, of DnD Performance has drag raced the Buick brand since 1979. After starting with a Street legal 1969 Buick GS -- that car was steadily progressed to a quick and consistent 9.80 secs machine which ran both in Super Pro and Super Gas. In 1996, the teams unique Skyhawk was acquired and a step up to the IHRA Top Sportsman class was made. The tube chassied machine, which was originally built by Hansen Race Cars was in fact campaigned by Californias Larry Torres as a D/EA in NHRA Competition eliminator. After taking delivery the car was expertly updated by Eddy Bryck at The Chassis Shop (Ajax, ON).
An alcohol injected 532 CID big block Buick powers the Skyhawk . That engine is normally aspirated and does not use nitrous oxide. The stock block configuration is filled with a Moldex crank , Bill Miller rods and JE pistons. The heads are aluminium TA stage fours and topped with a custom fabricated tunnel ram manifold (by DnD Performance) and a Enderle injector hat. DnD acknownledges Mike at TA Performance for his help with the design and development of the team's engine program.

The machine is a frequent runner at Canadian IHRA drag strips Grand Bend Motorplex and Toronto Motorsports Park.
