Edmontons Joey Steckler, who is renowned as one of Canadas most talented custom car and race car painters is also one of the most popular drivers within Western Canadas thriving (IBAA) 7.50 Pro Alcohol Funny Car circuit. Steckler currently drives a meticulously prepared 1969 Corvette replica.
The award-winning Corvette, which is clad over an ex-fuel altered chassis, features stunning yellow pearl paint which has been enhanced with purple and pinstriped flames. The show-stopping car advertises and clearly exemplifies the quality of work done by Joeys Place (Limited) -- which specializes in custom paintwork and restorations.
The Corvette is powered by an alcohol-burning 510 CID Chevrolet engine that was expertly assembled by Automotive Machine Services (in Edmonton). The team employs a 3-disc Titan clutch and a 3-speed Lenco transmission. While the car is raced extensively within the 7.50 (secs) Pro Alcohol Funny Car circuit, it has run unchecked at 7.24 secs and over 190 mph.
Joey Stecklers team is a self funded operation however valuable associate sponsorship is provided by AMS (Automotive Machine Service) and Standoy Paint - Autobody Specialties.
The team is a strong proponent and participant within the I.B.A.A. racing circuit which is focused on both maintaining the popularity of nostalgia bodied Funny Cars as well as keeping racing fun and more affordable for both its members and local race track operators.
