Despite a truly demanding corporate schedule Canadian Scott Mackie actively
races one of the most unique vehicles within IHRA's demanding Top Dragster
category. Mackie, who grew up in Ontario but now resides in Michigan, is the
General Director for AC Delco's vast worldwide parts distribution network.
Scott Mackie has been racing his current 243-inch Attac-chassied rear-engine
Top Dragster since 1999. Power for that machine comes from a truly unique
engine combination - a 555 CID all aluminium Chevrolet -- that features an
electronic fuel injection system that employs nitrous-oxide. The motor has
been run on an experimental basis using both alcohol fuel and high octane
pump gasoline. The dragster, which tips the scales at 1800 lbs, features a
durable Hutchison 2-speed powerglide transmission. Other important
components include a Competition cam, Dart cylinder heads and MSD ignition
system. Scott, along with his wife Lucy, worked closely with fellow IHRA
racer Harold Martin to develop the revolutionary engine combination, which
many insiders agree, may be a peek into the long-term future of drag racing.
The evolution of Scott's Top Dragster has been impressive. Despite the
rather rogue nature of their engine program the car was quick prove it's
credentials hitting it's milestone first "six" during the 2001 season and
running over 200 mph for the first time during 2002. Today the Ba-ba-Loo
Racing dragster regularly runs in the 6.5 to 6.6 seconds zone.
During the 2004 racing season a 2nd team car was added -- an immaculately
prepared Chevy II Nova which is driven by Lucy Mackie. That car is powered
by a 540 CID Chevrolet motor. The car is equipped with a 2-stage
nitrous-oxide system. So far that has not yet been employed, however
expectations are when it is, the Chevy II will be capable of high 7-secs
elapsed times.
The primary associate sponsor for the team is Harold Martin Motorsports.
Scott Mackie's dedication to the sport of drag racing does go well beyond
his own racing operation. During the racing weekends that he and his wife
are not active at the drag strip themselves, Scott is often present at major
NHRA and IHRA national events in support of AC Delco's star drivers Kurt
Johnson (NHRA Pro Stock) and Harold Martin (IHRA Pro Mod). Scott is a
driving force within AC Delco's major event sponsorship associations within
both of drag racing's sanctioning bodies.
